All About Hard Water Spots

You have tried every cleaner on your garage shelf, and although the surface looks great wet, when it dries those unsightly water spots re-appear.
So what’s happening?

Here is the 4-1-1.

Upon the onset of water spotting, alkaline and calcium in the water form a molecular bond with the surface. Over time hard water spots take on a corrosive process etching themselves into any surface. There are several factors which determine how hard the water spots will be and what strength Water Spot Remover will be appropriate for their removal. Depending upon such factors as hardness of water, heat, exposure to direct sunlight and amount of time left unattended, hard water spots become more difficult to remove. That being said, there is no timetable or temperature range exposed water spots reach that anyone can use to determine whether one product or another will do the job of removing them. Confused? Don’t waste your time trying to figure this one out; I will give you an example. Along the Colorado River where water is extremely hard, air temperatures can fluctuate from +40˚ Fahrenheit in the winter to as high as +120˚ Fahrenheit in the summer. On a moderate day, the water spots you encounter can usually be removed using standard cleaners, provided you don’t leave them unattended for weeks, hence, the time factor. On a hot day, let us say 90˚ and above you may find they do not remove so easily. The hotter the weather, the harder the water spot! Get the picture? So basically the four factors pointed out; hardness of water, heat, exposure to direct sunlight and time left unattended will determine the hardness of the spots and what products are appropriate for their removal.
So what products should you use? We currently offer two non-abrasive, environmentally friendly products for combating this problem. Original Water Spot Remover and Water Spot Plus described below.

Ducky Water Spot “Plus” our 2nd generation Water Spot Remover with Brazilian Grade-A White Carnauba Wax was developed for the removal of hard water spots at the earliest and less aggressive stages, enabling effortless removal of water spots, while leaving a UV protected, smooth waxed finish that will give you added protection and a show stopper look. Water Spot “Plus” will not strip existing wax, and adds additional wax with each application. You will find that being proactive and using Water Spot “Plus” at the earliest signs of hard water spotting will pay great dividends, less clean-up, more relaxation time and may even preclude you from using Ducky “Original” Water Spot Remover or at worst buffing or paying a professional for restoration.

NOTE: There will undoubtedly be areas you will miss or neglect which will require the stronger and more aggressive formulation of Ducky “Original” Water Spot Remover. Be sure to always keep a bottle close at hand!
